Mommy! Daddy! It's snowing outside!!!

Well, Maddie woke up this morning to a winter wonderland and boy was she excited. I had told her on Saturday that it might snow and she was ready. "What am I going to wear? I can wear my snow boots and my pink snow pants!"

Backing up to Saturday, we woke up to the sound of the tornado alarms sounding. I turned on the television and thought no big deal. Todd and Maddie were playing and I was still trying to get a little bit of sleep when I heard those alarms go off again. I turned the local weather on and heard there was a tornado headed right our way. We had about 15 minutes before it was supposed to hit. My feet hit the floor and I went to hollarin'. "Todd, get Maddie dressed and get to the safe place, there's a tornado coming. We've got 15 minutes, hurry up!" So after our running around and mass confusion, we have decided we should just pack a bag and keep it in the closet in case this happens again. Maddie was bored, she wanted toys to play with while we waited. She did call and talk to her friend, Caldwell, on the cell phone to pass the time. Thank goodness we were safe. There were two or three tornadoes that did touch down in the area.

So that leads us to today and it has been snowing since about 6 this morning. I can't remember the last time it snowed for 4 hours straight. We all went out and played in it and had so much fun. I think Maddie would stay out there until she couldn't move. She did say, "This was her first three-year-old snow." I think she still remembers her first two-year-old snow. She loves it even more this year. Kurlie loved it too. We had to make him come inside. Moggie and Bough could care less, they just stayed on the couch where it was warm.

So it has been one of the most bazar weekends in the weather department for us. Tornadoes to snow storm, and tomorrow should be around 50 degrees. Go figure!

My First Blog

Well, I guess I thought I might have time do one more thing. So here it is, our family blog. I can't promise that I will update often, but I will try. As some of you know, I just recently joined the wonderful world of Face Book. I have caught up with a lot of old friends and have enjoyed it so much. Several of them have their own blogs and I have enjoyed reading all the stories about their children. They all say it's a great way to remember all the cute stuff. Well Maddie does so much cute stuff I want to be able to remember it and to share it with all of you.

Since this is our first posting, I will give you all a quick update on what's going on in our lives. We tend to stay too busy. Todd works for Auburn City Schools in the maintence department. He works so hard, but I think he really enjoys what he does. He has to, the benefits are too good to ever think about doing anything else. I'm still working for my sister filing sales tax returns. It's wonderful! I work some long hours sometimes, but I have great benefits too. My biggest benefit is staying home with Maddie. I have gotten to watch her grow and learn so much. I just don't know what I would have done if I had missed all that. Maddie just started a new school about 3 weeks ago and she loves it. She is there Monday thru Thursday from 7:45 to 10:15. It's very early for us. We have had to get up and moving much earlier than we would like. She learns so much there and enjoys all her new friends.

So today is our "off" day, we didn't have school, gymnastics, or swimming lessons. We met Maddie's good friend Madeline and her mom who I have become really good friends with at Burger King. We had lunch and thought the girls could play a bit while we chatted. Well, we have come to learn that Maddie does not care for heights what so ever. She does not like to climb up and play on all the fun stuff at all. Madeline assured her that she would protect her if she would just climb up the ladder and go down the slide. Well, our little girl did it. She climbed up that ladder all by herself and then it happened. I heard the cry of my little girl. What was wrong, where was she in the maze of tubes on the playground. Was I about to have to climb in to get her? Could I even fit? Lucky for me she was right there at the end of the slide in arms reach. "Maddie," I said, "what's the matter? Why are you crying?" She responded, "I can't see my legs." "But your legs are right there." So after about what seems like 30 minutes she finally settled down and went back to playing. No more climbing up the ladder and no more sliding for her today.

On our way home, she started asking me questions. Lots of questions.

Maddie: When did you and daddy get married?
Me: July 17, 1999
Maddie: What did you wear? Your pink dress.
Me: Yes sweetie, I did.
Maddie: What did daddy wear?
Me: A suit, tie, pink shirt, and cuff links.
Maddie: Did y'all wear wedding hats?
Me: No sweetie, we didn't wear wedding hats.
Maddie: What kind of shoes did you wear?
Me: I don't remember what color my shoes were. Daddy wore black shoes.
Maddie: Is Paw Paw (my dad) married?
Me: No sweetie, he's not married.
Maddie: Then I'm going to marry Paw Paw. Can I wear your pink wedding dress?
Me: Well sweetie, you can wear my pink wedding dress when you get bigger, but I don't think you can marry your Paw Paw.
Maddie: But why not.
Me: You'll have to find you someone else to marry.

Oh how their little minds work!

When we got home, it wasn't too cold outside so I thought it might be a good idea to play outside for a little while. "I know, Maddie, lets get your tricycle and ride down the sidewalk. " "That's a great idea, Mommy, let's do that." So off we went. We made it a pretty good distance before she got mad because I was walking beside her and threw herself off the tricycle into one of the neighbor's yards and just sat there. The rest of the walk was not too pleasant for either of us. We finally made it home and now she is fast asleep on the couch. I had to keep from laughing when she threw her fit in the neighbor's yard. She reminds me of myself so much sometimes.

Oh how we love her so much. There is never a dull moment.
